About

Conway ArtsFest will be a virtual festival this year, and we need people all over Conway to bring the theme of "We Create Conway" to life by participating in community art projects. Volunteers are needed to create examples of the community art projects and send photos to cafta@conwayarts.org or submit using this form. The dates for Conway ArtsFest are September 26th-October 3rd, so we invite you to display your art during those dates and share the location here for our We Create Conway community art map!

Instructions for Joy in the Window Below:

Think about things that bring you joy.  Maybe a special place, food, music, or a favorite season? We are going to create a window hanging to share that joy.  Hanging tissue paper in the window will let the sun shine through it, illuminating your art.

Your design may be colors and simple shapes inspired by what brings joy, or you may want to cut more detailed designs from the tissue paper.  The waxed paper provides a strong translucent background.  The glue stick goes on purple, so you can see where it is while you work, but dries transparent.

Tips:
  • Tissue paper can be glued in overlapping layers to create new colors.
  • Your window hanging can be one large piece, or cut into multiple small shapes to hang.
  • Drawing a pattern to put under the waxed paper can help plan a more detailed design.
  • Opaque paper, like construction paper, can be used to make a dark shape.  This paper does not let the sun shine through like the tissue paper does.
Helpful terms:
Illuminate- to light up
Translucent- allows some, but not all, light to pass through
Transparent- allows light to pass through, clear
Opaque- blocks light from passing through
